Koradonda chapters: 1, 2, 3

Sara, bare skinned, and in her teenaged form, stood next to Jones. He’d have her back in her cougar form before anyone entered, but he needed her to take care of herself for the moment. Humans were strange. A large cat underfoot was less of a distraction than a naked teenaged girl, or even a clothed one, for that matter.

The local cable channel interrupted its programming, and photos of Ann and another girl appeared on the screen, drawing his attention.

Sara’s too.

The female anchor’s voice said, “Ann Donaldson and Lisa McCrimmon are in critical condition following a brutal attack on them outside the Donaldson residence this morning.”

Her rage hit him. The power needed to maintain her as a human went up, so he let her shift back to cougar.

Her roar rattled the walls.

“We will bring you more detail as they develop,” the voice said, then programming returned

This woman had been doing things on his behalf. That was why she was hurt. Attacks on people working for him could not go unpunished or they would spread fast.

Adding in the fact that she was somehow tied to the pattern, and he had to act.

He moved to the locked steel security door and steel frame that replaced the old one. It was no more a hindrance than the first door had been. But it had a drawback. Smashing through it would likely kill one or more of the Marines stationed on the other side.

Five steps along the wall, using senses humans do not have, he ensured that no one stood on the other side of the wall. Raising his arms, he smashed through the steel reinforced concrete wall with negligible effort and entered the hall.

The Marines standing guard reached for their sidearms.

“Gentlemen, you can escort me to the hospital, or tell your commander that I beat the hell out of you, then left.” He paused. “I can make sure that isn’t a lie if you wish.”

One made a very quick decision and snapped his weapon holster closed. “Until told otherwise, we will escort you where you wish to go.”

Another lifted his radio to contact his superiors.

Not that he needed to. That hall was under constant monitoring and the alarms in the security station went off as soon as he came through the wall.

The security booth became silent as those words were carried to them.

Turning right meant that Jones was going to the garage, left the front entrance.

The Jones creature turned left.

The security camera monitoring people relayed that to Tactical Response team.

Eight men of the Tactical Response team had been suited up at all times since Jones had revealed himself, but it was shift-change and there were two teams this time, including their captain present.

“Out front now,” the captain decided, seeing Jone standing in the rubble of a concrete wall on the wall monitor. He did not want more damage to the building.

They beat Jones to the front, mostly because he let the Marines set the pace.

The captain let him get six paces into the plaza, then spoke into his microphone. “Don’t take another step.”

Mr. Jones and Sara stopped.

The Marines ran for cover, then pointed their own sidearms at him.

Captain Ryan realized that he had no idea what to do now. They didn’t have a place that could hold him, if he had indeed busted through a concrete wall. He did know that his two RPGs were finally in a position that they could be used without damage to the building.

It tempted him to order their use.

Mr. Jones didn’t yell, but his voice carried as if he had. “Gentleman, you are out maneuvered and out positioned. Put your guns away and there will be no cause for anyone to be injured.”

The Captain didn’t understand until someone said, “Holy fuck,” and he turned and looked behind him.

Outside of his ring of men, what appeared to be any animal for miles approached. It wasn’t a cloud that darkened the sky, but birds of all types. The dogs, cats, rats and mice were inching closer.

The silence from them and the birds made it all the more frightening. This bastard controlled animals. Why hadn’t he been told!?

Then a man came out the front door.
