Renegade on Kara The Great Basin Chapter 5 Non Humans
To live in a land filled with Non Humans Roger has get over his fears.
Roger awoke to find his doubts and regrets faded. Reexamining things without the adrenaline pumping through him, it was easy to admit he had been lying to himself. On no colony connected to NewGate, did he have a genuine chance of escaping the reach of the NewGate Police Force of Kara. In time, they would find out which colony gate he had used. Between the AIs, the University trained mages, and the legion Dragons, and knowing which colony, they would eventually track him down. If he was lucky, he could stretch that out for years, even decades possibly, but they would catch him. In truth, the AIs should have deduced him being on that walkway when that tram full of Asgro contains passed and had this down as a probable destination years ago and retrieved him.
They hadn’t, and things and options were far different through this gate.
There was no technology. They permitted neither University mages nor dragons on this side of the Armstrong gate. And this habitable area was old, impossibly old. Not quite infinite, but ten to the sixty-third years was close enough.
Even if they found out he was here, the resources the planetary council could bring to bear on getting him were limited. That means he had a chance. But only if he learned to get along with non-humans. Getting out of the Confederation and away from human government was his only genuine chance.
He should have spelled that man who opened the Asgro container to forget seeing him. It had been foolish to tell him the correct date. With that, an inquiry would turn him up. But chances were good the man hadn’t said anything, if no one had inquired. Since Roger hadn’t gone to immigration, no one would have.
Should he sneak back in, interrogate him, then wipe it from his memory?
