A hand shaking his shoulder pulled Bob out of his deep sleep.

He cracked his eyes open.

The hand belonged to Jackal.

“God, waking up to your ugly face has to be one of the worst ways to start a day.”

“I would’ve sent Kitten, but we chained her up last night.” Jackal sat down on the next bunk. “King Peter’s here, with a list of things for us to do.”

Every muscle screamed as he sat up.

Packing rebar into the Medusa had been more heavy labor than he had done in years.

Pain in his hands drew his attention. Those blisters were going to hurt. They would have been worse if not for the work gloves.

Jackal grinned at him. “He told me to tell you that you can get a hot shower before meeting with him. He understands that your sore muscles need it. You and Scar are the only ones still asleep. I recommend you take him up on it. Things tell me that today will be a busy day. It was on his orders you and Scar were not wakened at dawn when he arrived. He also gave us some blister cream. You’re not the only one with them.”

Bob turned his head and saw through the windows that the sun was well up.

He sighed. A hot shower sounded great.

A groan escaped his lips as he stood.

This winter, he let himself get too much out of shape. Too much of his three hundred and thirty pounds was around his middle instead of his chest where it should be.

With a grunt to Jackal, he picked up the towel on the end of his bunk and made his way to the shower.

A naked and chained Kitten greeted him with a bright, cheery smile.
