Bob opened his eyes.

He listened.

The murmurs of distant conversations from downstairs penetrated the thick beams of the floor, reaching his ears. It was still day.

Setting up, he fumbled for the lamp next to the bed.

3:09 pm. He let out a deep sigh. Long enough.

He stood and found not only was he still dressed, he still wore his boots.

Damn, he had needed that sleep.

He opened the door four steps away and faced a merc guard, his back against the door on the opposite side of the hall.
